BASIC TRAINING March 1943 to April 1943
Dear Folks, We got paid today, so I'm sending home some money. You know what to do with it. Got a letter from you today. I'm glad everything's O.K. Thanks for all your trouble. I really need that razor. I just don't have enough time to shave otherwise. Folks, I'm really in good condition. I ran 1 and 1/2 miles today at a good pace without stopping or getting short of breath. My legs held out fine. They're getting good and strong. Naturally all this happened before I "got shot." Say hello to all the neighbors for me. I just haven't time to write to them. I did find time to write to Grandma Putman and wrote to Robert and Margaret last night. I'll write to Uncle Jack tomorrow. Tell him not to worry about his shots. The only effect of a tetanus shot is as follows - ten steps away from the needle and you feel like Joe Louis just hit you on your chin. You know about the typhoid. Charles has an "open post" tomorrow and has a date with the Simmons - will tell you more about this later. Must close now.
Lots of love, |
