YEARS LATER

Heroinflight.com was designed by Sue Veldkamp in memory of her Uncle Jack Buxton, a B-24 Liberator Pilot killed in World War II. Her desire to learn more about her late Uncle started as far back as she can remember - with stories shared from her Grandmother (Jack's mother). Jack now has a "namesake" and Sue felt that it was important for "Little Jack" to know who he was named for.

Her desire increased after learning of some "unusual" things that just couldn't be overlooked. Just a few of these were:

  • Sue chose April 19 as the date for her wedding not knowing at the time that April 19 was also Jack's birthday

  • The last letter that Jack wrote home was dated August 9 - August 9 is Sue's birthday

  • Jack's mother used to say how difficult it was to look at Sue as a baby "because she looked so much like Jack" (pictures are below at the same age - you be the judge)

  • A B-24 Liberator located at Seething, England with the same Bombardment Group (448th) and the same Bomb Squadron (714th) as Jack's was named, "Sally." Jack's namesake, 3-year-old "little Jack's" mother, Sue's youngest sister, is named Sally.
