I knew Jack before he and Charlie Fredricks joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. His father was, for a while, the Boy Scout Master of Troop 39, which met on Friday evenings at the Madisonville Methodist Church on Madison Road. I also graduated from Withrow but about three years after Jack and Charlie. Everything good that you can say about Jack, and his entire family, will not be enough to justify what a fine family they were. About ten years ago I moved back to Cincinnati after having lived in various states for the previous thirty-nine years. My years in the Scouts formed the basis for the way I lived my future years and much teachings of the good things came from Jack, Oscar and Charlie. I still maintain distant contact with one of the former Troop 39 members and one of our other members was Story Stevens, who retired from the US Army as a one-star General.
