PREFLIGHT TRAINING
April 1943 to June 1943
  return to preflight training

Dear Mother,

We had our last Sunday morning parade and personal inspection today. We will be gone by this time next week if everything goes according to schedule. I really haven't much to write about this time, but I hope that you'll forgive me if I reiterate every now and then.

I received the craziest letter from Uncle Bobby yesterday. I just sat back and roared with laughter. I'm going to send it on to you and let you read it. I never realized my Uncle had it in him.

Last night we had a chemical warfare demonstration. They took us out on the side of a hill overlooking the Kelly flats and demonstrated all types of bombs and incendiaries. It was all very interesting. We really don't have hardly anything to do during the days now - just P.T. and drill once in a while.

Mother, could you send me about $10.00 of my money? I had a war bond taken out of my last pay, bought some clothes, etc. I won't be paid again until about July 20th. So, I'm afraid that I'll run short before then. I certain would appreciate it if you'd do that deed for me.

I told you that I bought my shoes. I'm very much pleased with them.

Just think - another week and I'll be flying! I certainly have that ol' Primary fever bad. You're just going to have to keep your fingers and toes crossed for the next month for me. All a fellow can do is his best - if I'm not cut out to be a pilot, there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Have you heard from Ralph lately? I'd like to know how he is progressing.

Well, it's time to eat, so I'll have to sign off for now.

Lots of love,
Jack
