PREFLIGHT TRAINING April 1943 to June 1943
Dear Mother,
The boys down here are pretty rough with the underclassmen. If it's not one thing, it's the other. We have to keep our shoes shined all the time, which is a job in itself. That goes for our brass, etc. We had several boys ask for "G.D.O." so that they could get out of here. So far, I've been able to take everything. But I don't know whether I can take all that is to come in the next two weeks. The studies don't worry me at all, but the upperclassmen do. We ran the cross-country yesterday. I made 2 miles in 13 and 1/2 minutes. It rather fagged me out. I don't have any time to get to the P.X., so send me some candy every once in a while if you can. I got a letter from Johnny Carson today - seems like he's getting along O.K. I'd like to go to Purdue when this is all over. Well, there really isn't much news to write about - the same stuff happens here every day - and how! So, I'll sign off now.
Love,
p.s. I'll write again as soon as possible.
