PREFLIGHT TRAINING

  return to preflight training

Dear Mother,

This is the first chance that I've had to write for a long time. The upperclassmen have been keeping us going constantly every day. I get only two hours each night to study and I need about 5 hours. We're taking code right now and it requires loads of study. I hope that you aren't too disappointed with the pictures. One of these days, send me a good picture of you, Dad and Mary Jo.

The boys down here are pretty rough with the underclassmen. If it's not one thing, it's the other. We have to keep our shoes shined all the time, which is a job in itself. That goes for our brass, etc. We had several boys ask for "G.D.O." so that they could get out of here. So far, I've been able to take everything. But I don't know whether I can take all that is to come in the next two weeks.

The studies don't worry me at all, but the upperclassmen do. We ran the cross-country yesterday. I made 2 miles in 13 and 1/2 minutes. It rather fagged me out. I don't have any time to get to the P.X., so send me some candy every once in a while if you can.

I got a letter from Johnny Carson today - seems like he's getting along O.K.

I'd like to go to Purdue when this is all over.

Well, there really isn't much news to write about - the same stuff happens here every day - and how! So, I'll sign off now.

Love,
Jack

p.s. I'll write again as soon as possible.
