PREFLIGHT TRAINING
April 1943 to June 1943
  return to preflight training

Dear Mother,

I really should be studying now, but I'll try to write a few lines. I've really been working hard lately. Between the upperclassmen and my studies, I haven't had a bit of free time. But, tomorrow I become an upperclassman! So far my grades have been like this:

Math - final average - 100
Naval forces - just average - 98
Code - so far - 100
Aircraft Recognition - so far - 100
Physics - so far - 100

So, from that you can tell that some study certainly helps. My average is the highest in the entire group right now. About 1/4 of the boys failed math - rather surprised me. But, I thought the course was a snap! A group includes about 600 boys, if you're interested.

I got a package from you today - candy and thanks a lot - same for the nuts of last week. I don't know whether I want to be a cadet officer or not - there's quite a few drawbacks with the job.

Well, I'm feeling fine, but awfully busy. I'll write a good, long letter soon.

Lots of love,
Jack
