PREFLIGHT TRAINING April 1943 to June 1943
Dear Mother,
Yesterday we had an open post and as I told you before, I had a date with Jean Whitney. Another cadet and his date, "B.R." Brown went along with us. We rented a '42 Convertible "Chev" - had a great time. We went swimming in the afternoon, had supper and went to an open air dance pavilion (very much like Ault Park). We also stopped at some amusement park. I have to be in from open post by 10:00 p.m., so we didn't stay out very long in the evening. Edith is still down here trying to sell Charles on "kid marriage." She is getting nothing but a cold shoulder, though. In fact, Charles has just lost interest in her. So just tell Mrs. Fredrick not to worry a bit. There's no need for it.
Before I forget, I have a question to ask you. Do you have or can you spare a shoe ration stamp? I certainly would appreciate it if you could send me one. I can use it if it is out of a book because of being in the Armed Forces. So all I need is the stamp. The Army high tops are rather hard to dance in and not considered "beautiful." I really need a pair of low cuts for pleasure. If you can spare the stamp, send the stamp only. I don't need the book. According to schedule, I'll be leaving for Primary School three weeks from today. I'm sort of anxious to see what flying is really like. Happy Birthday, Dad! I guess you know that I was flat broke until last Thursday, but was planning to send you a pipe yesterday, (buy it in town), but Mother beat me to the draw. Something is on the way, though - hope that it will be O.K. Well I must close now, but will write again soon.
Love, |
