TRANSITION TRAINING
January 1944 to March 1944
  return to transition training

Dear Mother,

Nothing much has happened since my last letter. I was scheduled to fly this morning, but since my instructor didn't have a ship, I won't start until Sunday afternoon. However, I did get some "cockpit time" in this morning. I spent about three hours in the flight deck of a B-24, just trying to learn the approximate location of a few of the gadgets. I never dreamed of trying to handle such a gigantic, complicated and quite confusing mess of machinery as this airplane!

But, lots of others can learn the required, so I guess that I can also. I received the key to my suitcase the other day. I bet that you were plenty worried thinking that I wouldn't be able to open my suitcase. However, everything was quite O.K. since I had forgotten to lock my suitcase before I left.

I have a free day tomorrow, so I plan on going to town early to pick up a few things that I need. One is an alarm clock. I haven't the least idea where to look for one, except at some pawn shop, but I'll find one. Then I have a date with Jo Ruth for tomorrow evening. By the way, cease worrying because she's going back to Houston Sunday afternoon. Her new job starts on Monday. I couldn't talk her into going back to Business School.

I'm going to have to close for now - take a shower and go to bed. Will write again soon.

Loads of love,
Jack
