WAR OVER EUROPE
July 1944 to August 1944
  return to war over europe

Dear Mother,
Guess this is the first time I couldn't be with you or at least call you up on your birthday. Being way over here in England, I was sorta at a loss as to what to do. I finally decided there was nothing at all I could do!

So this is my best - write "Happy Birthday to you." So here's a great big kiss - right here! To my best girl on her birthday. Naturally, she's going to have lots more, so I'll just make up for V-mail kisses on her future birthdays. A real kiss is much more substantial, speaking in terms of flesh, than a kiss by mail.

Gee whiz, I hope that you're getting my mail better than I'm receiving yours. So far I've received a total of three letters - all from Carol.

But, yours will be coming soon.

Again - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Lots of love,
Jack

Although Jack's last letter was written on August 9, 1944, THIS was the last letter received by his mother. She had written on the outside of the envelope - "Last letter received from Jack"

 The B-24 Jack was assigned to was the "St. Louie Woman" - a photo and information about the plane has been found. Click here to see.
