Dear Mother,

Just think - only 6 more days until your birthday - no, I haven't forgotten. I'm just in such a position that I can't send you anything. But your son loves you very much and says, "Happy Birthday" to his best girl!

I know this letter won't reach you in time for August 7, so just let it apply to that day.

I did my laundry this evening - also wrote a few letters. I thanked Uncle Ellis for the drawing - hope his letter gets through O.K. Also I wrote to Dad by way of the office and got off a letter to Carol. By the way, have you heard from her since I left the states? As yet I haven't received any mail. I'm hoping that it will start coming through soon.

I'm feeling fine - hope and pray that you are in as good of health as I am.
