WAR OVER EUROPE
July 1944 to August 1944
  return to war over europe

Dear Mother,
Not much new to tell you. I'm still in Ireland - guess I've been telling you that in every letter. Tonight the boys decided that they wanted a "bed time snack" so Howard and I walked over to a nearby Irish grocery and bought some food. We purchased some canned pork and beans, some sardines and a loaf of Irish bread. Quite a mixture, isn't it?

Anyway, the meal was enjoyed by all. I'm still feeling fine. I hope none of the fellows become sick. I wrote a letter to Mary Jo last night - write and tell me if she enjoyed it.

I'm figuring on dropping her a line every once and a while - something she can show to her friends. Maybe this is all part of my conceit - trying to impress the younger generation of Madisonville with my importance.

As yet I haven't received any mail, but I'm expecting it any day to start arriving - most probably will arrive in one gigantic bunch.

Must close.

Lots of love,
Jack

 Jack's mother never knew if Jack received any mail from her once he left for Europe. It bothered her for years and years.
